Gary Harmsen, principal, has partnered with Tom Oberg (project consultant, long-term independent contractor) since 2004.
Tom, now happily retired, started the company in 1975. We are proud to uphold the tradition of quality craftsmanship and specialty skills that Tom established.
Why repair existing windows?
Most of our work is on pre-1950 homes. Replacement windows can detract from the character and value of an old home, preservationists say. You don’t need to replace windows that are drafty or stuck.
We can help you restore original windows and make them energy-efficient. Aesthetics and home value go hand in hand; by preserving the original architectural integrity, you preserve not only a bit of history but also resale value.
We use lead safe work practices.
Why did my window wood rot?
Aluminum or vinyl siding is often the culprit. Because old houses don’t have vapor barriers, moisture from inside the house moves into the wall. In insulated walls, moisture builds up and is trapped by the vinyl, which can lead to rotting.
How much can you rejuvenate?
A solution to your window problems will depend on the cause of the problem(s), the way the windows are built, and your expectations.
The most common problems we address are:
• Drafts
• Broken sashes
• Rattles
• Condensation
• Glazing putty deteriorated
• Broken glass
